Inclusion Resolution
The Disability to Possibility program comes in the form of a kit complete with lesson plans and all the materials needed to utilize the kit. The program uses empowerment to teach that we always have options and possibilities, no matter what happens in our lives by giving the students the knowledge, tools and individual experiences of knowing disability, intimately. The program brings creativity, connection and service in the hearts and minds of the students with this empowerment. By experiencing all the possibilities and options that surround the world of the disabled the students understand their personal power of choice. Their choice of how they can experience their world, a world with possibilities or a world without possibilities. With this realization creativity is generated. The students learn compassion for themselves and for others with the knowledge they have gained from the program. Connection, that we are more similar then different, and understanding comes on account of the knowledge. All of this leads to the desire to connect and be of service to others and the community.
Students with and without disabilities are empowered by this program. They learn about the words disabled and able and that sometimes words don’t mean what we think they mean and how we choose to hear them. The students discover the amazing variety of disabilities, comprehending that it’s everywhere and everyone has something that can be called a disability. Students experience using and translate sign language and how it feels to be blind and trust another to guide you. Their hands are tied behind their back requiring them to become resourceful to write their name on apiece of paper. Students will learn about the laws, service animals, technology, sports, movies, books, websites, people who have been successful in spite of a disability and so much more about how people with disabilities have created powerful possibilities even when the word “disability” means a powerless invalid. This kit creates attitudinal accessibility in our hearts and minds.
Right now the kit meets the 7 th grade teaching standards for the State of California. Along with the lesson plan workbook the contents include books, magazines, posters, lists of website, movies, books, organizations, DVD’s, resources, video tapes, flash cards, homework assignments, props for creating experiences and journaling activities.
When ever we are subjected to something we have not experienced before our brains make new pathways, this is proven science. When our brains create new pathways we are expanding. When we expand in one area of our brain it will affect other areas of our brain. This expedition opens up new possibilities these new possibilities create empowerment. The Disability to Possibility does all this and its fun too!
Inclusion Resolution is the adult version of the Disability to Possibility kit for businesses, cities and organizations to create comfort and ease when working with a disabled consumer and employee.
